1. Current website

Information stored on your device

The website may store your language preference and saved creature identifiers in your browser’s local storage. A service worker may cache pages and media on your device to improve reliability and limited offline access. This device-local information is not uploaded to us, sold, or shared by Shanhai Wonders.

Information processed to deliver the website

Like other websites, our hosting and security providers may process limited technical information necessary to deliver and protect the service, such as IP address, request time, requested URL, browser or device information, and security signals. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles or track you across unrelated services.

Audio and media

Optional narration uses speech capabilities available in your browser or operating system. The website does not request or record microphone audio. Creature audio and video play only when requested by the user, except for visual transitions that can be disabled through reduced-motion preferences.

Pages may link to external sources or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we encourage you to review them before providing personal information.

Optional field-notes email

If you voluntarily join the Shanhai Wonders field notes, we store your email address, consent time, language setting, signup source, subscription status, and record timestamps. We use this information only to administer the requested cultural and product updates. It is not sold or used for advertising profiles. You may withdraw consent through an unsubscribe link when email delivery begins or by contacting support@shanhaiwonders.com. Unsubscribed records may be retained in a suppression list only as necessary to honour your choice and meet legal obligations.

2. Planned iOS and Android apps

The initial app release is planned without an account, advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. Language, favourites, viewed-creature markers, and onboarding state are intended to remain on the device. These viewed-creature markers record only which entries have been opened so the app can show local exploration progress. The app is not intended to collect precise location, contacts, photos, health, financial, or microphone data.

These statements describe the planned initial release and will be checked against the final production build, Apple privacy report, Google Play Data safety form, and all included software before submission. If the implementation changes, this policy and the store disclosures will be updated before release.

3. Children, retention, and your choices

The project serves a general cultural and educational audience and is not designed to solicit personal information from children. Device-local preferences remain until you clear browser site data, use an available reset control, or remove the app. Infrastructure security records may be retained by service providers for limited operational and security purposes according to their applicable policies.

You can use browser or device controls to clear local data, disable site storage, restrict speech services, or prevent media playback. Some convenience features may stop working after local data is disabled or cleared.

4. Changes and contact

If we introduce accounts, cloud sync, subscriptions, payments, analytics, user submissions, or another feature that changes data handling, we will update this policy before that feature becomes available.
